Welcome to Shenandoah
A sign welcomes visitors to Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. Shenandoah, a coal mining boom town, boasted a population of nearly 30,000 in the early 20th century but now is home to only about 5,000 residents. An influx of Hispanics in recent years has created tensions and in July 2008 three white teens were charged in the murder of a Mexican immigrant.
